We were innocent once, and young
June 25, 2001, was a glorious evening across the river from Manhattan. I was photographing that great Manhattan skyline in the evening light. This man with his daughter was enjoying the evening as well. He gave me permission to photograph them, but it was really a grab shot, my camera was on a tripod so no time to compose. But with the father and pensive young daughter and those twin buildings off in the distance, I knew it was a moment that would not come again - she would change and move on. Little did we know then what it was in this scene that in less than 3 months would change.
